Amidst the captivating turquoise waters and the pristine white strand beach of East Calf Island, lies a story of human settlement and perseverance.

Remains of Iron Age forts on East and Middle Calf speak to the long human-lived history of these islands.

More recently however, in the late 19th century, East Calf Island saw its population reach a peak of 23 residents in 1881. The island bustled with life as families made their homes amidst the idyllic surroundings. Children from East Calf Island and West Calf island would attend school on Middle calf island, fostering a sense of community and shared experiences.

The island's history took a turn with the hardships faced during the era of hard evictions and famine. These events led to a decline in population as families were displaced and forced to leave their homes behind. The echoes of those times can still be felt as the island's population dwindled to nothing today.
